Sometimes you don’t know what you’re missing. Until it appears. Two weeks ago, ‘Essen– a modern market/delicatessen- opened on the corner of Varick Street and Vandam Street in downtown Manhattan. The 24-hour market sports a juice bar, salad bar, snacks and lots of other food choices. Plus, you can sit down upstairs and enjoy your food.
Nothing like this exists downtown. And, given the local offices, the place is hopping during the daytime. 9-to-5ers need a decent lunch spot, especially one where they can pick up their food and go back to the office. And given the entertainment venues-Soho Playhouse, City Winery- and the clubs-Greenhouse, WIP-‘Essen is busy late at night too. After a night of revelry, a cup of coffee or some nosh is the perfect thing.
If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by ‘Essen. We want to keep them in business for a long time.
