Saturday Night Live alums reigned supreme at The Golden Globes last night. Former SNL stars Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the star-studded affair, getting huge laughs for their opening jokes and oohs and ahhs for their costume changes.
Poehler also received a much overdo statuette for her portrayal of Leslie Knope on Parks and Recreation. There is simply no one like Leslie on TV, and Amy plays the character deliciously. Third time was the charm as she finally brought home the victory as Lead Actress in a Television Series — Comedy or Musical.
A bit more of a surprise was Andy Samberg’s win for his freshman series Brooklyn Nine Nine. Not only did the SNL alum take home the Lead Actor in a Television Series — Comedy or Musical trophy, the series won top comedy in a surprise victory.
Though she was nominated twice — in film and TV — Julia Louis-Dreyfus didn’t win a Golden Globe, but she cracked the audience up. In Fey and Poehler’s opening monologue, Louis-Dreyfus vamped and vaped (smoking an e-cigarette). She also refused to get a selfie with Reese Witherspoon. Later in the show, she moved to a “TV” table and chowed down on an enormous hot dog. Despite looking regal in her red dress, Louis-Dreyfus was game to make fun of herself and awards shows in general.
Like I said, it was a great night for SNL alums at The Golden Globes.
