As you may know, my show–Ted Greenberg’s The Complete Performer–got its start at the 2008 New York International Fringe Festival. I had a blast being a part of the large arts festival, and have been performing my brand of comedy ever since at Soho Playhouse. Every August, I return to the festival as a spectator and watch dozens of shows. I’m particularly fond of the one-person shows I’ve seen at the Fringe. I return year after year because I had a great time being a part of the festival and because I have a deep admiration for Elena Holy, the Producing Artistic Director, and Britt Lafield, Festival Administrator. That amazing staff of two pull off the impossible every summer–bringing nearly 200 shows to downtown venues for over 70,000 theatergoers to enjoy. It’s a Herculean effort.
And, their work for the 2014 edition is getting underway. You have until Valentine’s Day-February 14th to submit an application to be a part of this year’s festival. Details are on the FringeNYC website. If you’ve got a show that you’re developing or have already created, consider applying to the festival. It’s a great way to present your work to an engaging and engaged audience. And it’s fun to be part of a festival that truly supports artists.
