As a lifelong New Yorker, I love the Big Apple. There are a few places with staying power in this city. The Statue of Liberty. The Empire State Building. Cafe Borgia II. That’s right, the tiny cafe located in the heart of SoHo has been around for forty years.

Opened in 1975, it was the second outpost. The original cafe on Bleecker and MacDougal was the haunt of Beat poets and famous 1960s and 1970s writers and artists. There is a beautiful New York Times article about its closing in 2001. Cafe Borgia II continues the legacy. It is a no frills spot for a quick bite and some coffee. The cafe has seen the SoHo neighborhood transform over the last four decades from Italian neighborhood to loft apartments to the hotbed it is today.

If you want a quick coffee and a reminder of New York from the old days, stop by Cafe Borgia II before my show. It’s only a couple blocks from SoHo Playhouse.

Happy New Year.
